It looks like the COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose problems for Marvel comics.
According to a report by Newsarama, Marvel is switching seven current titles to digital releases through May 20th as a response to the delays caused by the novel coronavirus outbreak. The titles set for the digital release switch include Ghost-Spider, Ravencroft, Star, Ant-Man, Freefall, Spider-Man: The Black Cat Strikes, and 2020: Ironheart.
Interestingly enough, the only ongoing title out of the seven is Ghost-Spider. The other comic books are mini-series that come in varying lengths.
The switch to digital shouldn't really come as a surprise, however, we wonder why Marvel's made the move so late. Regular print and digital comic releases have been scheduled to resume on May 27, so this move seems a little bit ill-conceived, especially when comic book stories have been set to re-open later this month.
Of course, while the comic book industry is going set to return to "normal" in the comic weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic will still pose as a problem for major publications like Marvel and DC.
Despite all this, we're glad that Marvel is beginning to pick itself of its feet.
Earlier this month, Marvel Comics released a list of titles set for release this month - which is great news considering the fact that Marvel Comics was nearly ground to a halt in April in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Titles set for release on May 27 include Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Marauders, Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, and Venom.
