Marry My Husband Timeline Explained: How Many Times Has Ji-hyuk Died?
Let's clarify one thing: Yoo Ji-hyuk (played by Na In-woo) only died once, like Kang Ji-won (played by Park Min-young). Ji-hyuk died in a car accident when he swerved to avoid hitting a cat in the middle of the road.
Unfortunately, the accident left him dead in 2023. But when Ji-hyuk opens his eyes, he's back in his room in 2013.
This article says Ji-hyuk has died several times and "respawns" when he fails to get Ji-won to like him.
It may be because of a scene where Ji-hyuk jumped in front of a car to save an orange cat in the past. But as explained in Episode 8, he did not get hit by the car. He simply injured his knee ligaments in the process.
Why Did Ji-hyuk Go Back to 2013 Like Ji-won?
Ji-hyuk has since compared his life to a "well-written novel" in the sense that there are no uncertainties or big challenges that create drama. And for this, he is determined to use his second life to help Ji-won avoid her cursed fate.
In one of the scenes, Ji-hyuk visits Ji-won's urn and weeps about his missed chances to tell her how he feels. When he leaves the establishment, he is surprised to find that his car won't start.
Out of nowhere, a taxi comes and rescues him. This turns out to be the same taxi driven by Ji-won's father. He talks to him about his missed chances and if he would change anything if given the chance.
This turns out to be a test as Ji-hyuk gets sent back to the past to help Ji-won, thus the blue heart on his chest means the allowance sent by Ji-won's dad.
Determined with the idea that he will still end up dead in 10 years, Ji-hyuk decides to use this second chance to help Ji-won no matter what. Even if that means she won't choose him, Ji-hyuk decides to help Ji-won change her fate.
