No, the band does not make a cameo in the movie. But there is some reference to Maroon 5 in Family Switch.

The reference comes as a joke, which Bill (played by Ed Helms) shares was his interrupted career as a musician. The scene in the movie comes as an emotional take between Bill and his son, Wyatt (played by Brady Noon).

Wyatt confronts his father about a choice he made when he was young. It turns out that Bill gave up his chance to be a rock star when he learned he was going to be a father. Instead of pursuing his dreams, he chose to stand by his family.

Although the moment was an emotional one, the creator of the film was able to add a light joke to it. Wyatt asks his dad the name of the band. Bill responds Maroon 6.

Wyatt asks again, "Isn't it Maroon 5," before realizing just how big of a deal Bill's sacrifice was.

No, Maroon 6 is not real. The band has always been known as Maroon 5.

Maroon 6 is simply a joke used in Family Switch that meant Bill was supposed to be the sixth member of Maroon 5 if he chose to follow his dreams of becoming a rock star.

While this is a joke, some viewers wondered if there was ever a sixth member in the group.

As it turns out, Maroon 5 originally started with only four members in 1999. When they started, they were called Kara's Flowers and were comprised of Adam Levine, Mickey Madden, Jesse Carmichael, and Ryan Dusick.

A fifth member was added to the group after Octone Records' executive suggestion so Adam could focus on singing. The group then added James Valentine as their guitarist. The band was renamed to Maroon 5.

There was also another member who joined in 2010, keyboardist PJ Morton.

In 2006, Dusick departed from the band after he sustained serious shoulder and wrist injuries. He was replaced by Matt Flynn.

Mickey Madden took a leave of absence from the group in 2020 after being arrested over domestic violence allegations. He was replaced by Sam Farrar.
