Mark Miller Bashes Modern Marvel Movies In Favor Of New Aquaman Trailer

Last Friday, Warner Brothers dropped a five-minute-long extended trailer for Aquaman, wowing fans with its bright colors and its mesmerizing CGI visuals. Kick-Ass and Marvel Civil War comic book writer Mark Miller was one of those who found themselves stunned by the Aquaman trailer.

Taking to Twitter, Miller decided to take a few jabs at Marvel Studio's repertoire of movies while heaping praise at Jason Momoa's upcoming standalone movie as the DCEU's Arthur Curry.

"Aquaman trailer just made modern Marvel look like 70s TV Marvel, chums," the comic book writer wrote in a post on the social media site. "The green gauntlet has been slapped down and DC back in the game. A 5 min trailer so damn audacious, [James Wan], you damn genius!"

This comes as a bit of a surprise. Miller hasn't been that supportive of the DCEU, saying that Marvel's characters make better movies because DC's heroes just "aren't cinematic enough."

In an interview with Yahoo Movies back in February, Miller admitted that while he was a big DC fan, most of his favorite characters' stories centered around their superpower (with the exception of Batman of course).

Miller does have a point. While heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman come born with their powers, the human origins of Marvel's Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Widow make them more relatable to audiences. Spending a decade building up its own string of films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the most successful superhero franchise to date, earning billions at the box office.

Marvel's next big movie, Captain Marvel, premieres March 8, 2019.
