Mark Hamill: The Secrecy Surrounding Star Wars Episode IX is More Intense

Though Luke Skywalker may have died in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we know that Mark Hamill will be making a comeback in Episode IX. The movie is currently in production and Hamill talks about the more intense security the production has gone through to keep the film's secrets.

Hamill tells Entertainment Weekly:

"They're going to fly [the rewrites] over with somebody from the company… They're going to come and give it to me and wait for me to read it before I give it back. So no pressure! You can't even keep it overnight. But that's the way it is now."

For now, we're not expecting any trailer drop from Star Wars Episode IX before the year ends, but it's possible that Lucasfilm could give us one of their behind the scenes featurettes. It also wouldn't hurt to actually give us the film's title while they're at it.

Hamill also gives us an update on what else he's doing for the movie, and he may have revealed that he hasn't started shooting for the movie at all. Hamill explains:

"I still have to go over and do [Episode IX]… Most of the parts I have coming up beside Star Wars are voiceover — there's one big one, very high profile, I can't announce now, that I'm really excited about."

While a lot of people are bummed that we won't see more of Hamill in the film, we should take in mind that it really isn't Luke Skywalker's story anymore—it's Rey's. At best I think Luke is just going to show up for a scene or two; either to give Rey some more guidance or to try and talk to Ben Solo about converting back to the light.

Catch Star Wars Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20, 2019.
