In a few weeks, the upcoming Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) film Madame Web will finally arrive in theaters. It is the first entry in the franchise that will focus on an all-female superhero team that is led by Dakota Johnson's Cassandra Webb.

However, with the disappointing box office results of Morbius, there have been some questions about the reception that the film may receive and whether it will be able to reach the success of the Venom films.

It also doesn't help that the reactions to the trailer were not enthusiastic as fans mocked it for its quality being similar to the CW Arrowverse shows and one of the lines that was mentioned by Johnson immediately became the subject of a meme.

A recent report from Deadline revealed the early opening weekend box office projection for Madame Web ahead of its arrival in theaters in three weeks.

The SSU film is currently on track to earn $25 million in its six-day opening weekend over the Valentine's Day frame. In comparison, Bob Marley: One Love, which is also set to release that week, is projected to open with $27-33 million.

It should be noted that the projections are still early and the number might still change in the coming weeks as we're getting closer to its release.

If Madame Web does end up nabbing a $25 million six-day opening, it will be a massive disappointment for the SSU franchise since it is going to be significantly lower than Morbius which earned $39 million in its three-day opening.

There is no doubt that it is not the kind of numbers that Sony wants for one of their biggest franchises since they are relying on the SSU as their flagship comic book movie franchise. They've also been struggling with their films outside the Venom series and Spider-Verse animated movies.

It is interesting to see what kind of critical reception it will get since it could also affect the box office numbers. If it will be received similarly to Morbius, it would be a bleak future for the SSU moving forward.

Madame Web is set to arrive in theaters this February 14.
