The new Sony's Spider-Man Universe film Madame Web is finally out in theaters this week. However, the reviews have been mostly negative and some critics have considered it to be one of the worst comic book movies of all time.

So far, the studio has not laid out any plans for a sequel and it is likely that it will only happen if it becomes a runaway box office success and overcome the bad word-of-mouth.

If Sony decides to move forward with a sequel, will the star of the film open to return? The actress has weighed in.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Madame Web star Dakota Johnson addressed her potential return in a sequel and reprise the role of Cassandra Webb.

She revealed that she is open to returning to the role although she has no idea what the plans are for the future.

"If they want me to come back then I definitely will. I have no idea what's in store," the actress said.

The ending of the film did tease what we might anticipate in a potential sequel after setting up her origins and introducing the future Spider-Women in their universe.

However, based on the reception that it's been receiving so far and its box office projections, a sequel sounds very unlikely at this point and it would be surprising if Sony decides to move forward with a follow-up.

Given the negative reviews that their films have received at this point, it is also likely that Sony will reassess their plans for the franchise to see how they can work out with their own Spider-Man live-action franchise without the hero himself and whether they should do more movies.

At the very least, if Sony does decide to do a Madame Web sequel, we know now Johnson will somewhat get involved again and play Cassandra Webb in her more comic-accurate form as also teased by the film's ending.

Madame Web is now showing in theaters everywhere.
