A recently-released concept art for Madame Web revealed that the Sony film almost featured an appearance from Spider-Man.

The critically panned Sony's Spider-Man Universe installment centered on the origins of Cassandra Webb and future Spider-Women Julia Cornwall, Mattie Franklin, and Anya Corazon.

It also featured characters connected to the origins of Peter Parker as Ben Parker and his mother Mary Parker also made appearances and a scene near the end depicted the birth of the future Spider-Man.

Artist Sebastian Meyer recently unveiled the concept art that he made for Madame Web on his website.

Some of the images in the concept art showed the Tom Holland version of Spider-Man fighting Ezekiel Sims around the New York skyline.

It implies that at some point during the development of the film, Sony was considering the idea of a cameo appearance from Holland's version of Spider-Man.

As most fans know now, the web-slinger did not make it on the final cut. Even with the depiction of the birth of Peter Parker, they didn't mention the name of the baby or make any references to his future as Spider-Man.

Prior to the release of the film, it was heavily rumored that a version of Spider-Man was set to make an appearance in the film although none of it ended up being true.

However, this concept art showed that the hero was supposed to be part of the film in its original conception and was scrapped later on in the process for unknown reasons.

In hindsight, most fans believe that the absence of Spider-Man worked out for the best given the reception that the film has received and its confusing depiction of the birth of Peter Parker as they didn't imply which version it serves as an origin to.
