Given that it was one of the biggest hits of 2022, it should come as no surprise for fans that Lycoris Recoil is officially getting an anime sequel soon. This was announced recently via the show’s official Twitter account.
To go along with the reveal, an announcement trailer was shared via the Aniplex YouTube channel.
Though the new trailer does not show off any new footage from the sequel as it’s instead composed of memorable moments from Season 1.
Lycoris Recoil – One of 2022’s Stand-out Shows
Most of the hyped anime shows of 2022 were either based on popular manga or sequels. For instance, Spy x Family's manga was already popular even before the anime. Meanwhile, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War was already in its third season in 2022.
One of the few exceptions is Lycoris Recoil, a surprise hit from the Summer 2022 season. While there are manga and light novels, these are just adaptations/spin-offs, as Lycoris Recoil is an original anime by A-1 Pictures.
Because it’s an original show, it didn’t get much attention prior to the season. Though as more episodes were released, its popularity skyrocketed.
By the end of the first season in September, Lycoris Recoil was among the most talked-about shows online, with many anime fans being invested in the relationship of the main characters, Chisato and Takina.
The show even gained several high-profile fans, the biggest of which is Hideo Kojima, the acclaimed video game director of Metal Gear.
Even after the anime’s broadcast, Lycoris Recoil continued to be popular. Aside from topping various end-of-year polls and enjoying lots of fan art and cosplays, the series’ Blu-ray releases have also been hot sellers.

Lycoris Recoil Season 2
A Season 2 announcement was all but inevitable given its immense popularity. So, it wasn’t a shocker that a new Lycoris Recoil anime project was announced.
Take note that this sequel is called an “anime project” and not Season 2. While a second season is highly likely, there’s a chance that this project will take the form of an OVA or even a movie.
A movie release might be possible given the explosion in the popularity of anime films recently.
For instance, even shows like Kaguya-sama: Love Is War has gotten theatrical sequel releases recently.
Whatever form it takes, we will likely have to wait for a while longer before more info on the Lycoris Recoil anime sequel, including a release date, is announced.
