The six Infinity Stones were integral to the storytelling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first three phases, most especially leading up to the last two Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame.

The Mad Titan Thanos searched high and low for every piece, even going as far as to sacrifice his own daughter, Gamora, in the process. The MCU lost their strongest heroes and even caused chaos in the timeline when half of the universe disappeared after the Snap.

But as seen in the Loki series, why do the Infinity Stones not work in the TVA? How come they’re suddenly being cast aside like marbles?

When Loki was caught being ‘out of bounds’ by the Time Variance Authority, they went to arrest the God of Mischief to correct the timeline he accidentally stumbled into.

One of the things that led Loki astray was the fact he got to take the Tesseract back into his hands, despite it getting confiscated by the Avengers in their suitcase.

It is worth mentioning that Loki knew he had to escape from being detained by the Avengers for two reasons: to attain his glorious purpose and his deal with Thanos.

If Loki hadn’t found out he was an adopted son of Odin, he wouldn’t have been led astray into taking the path of villainry in the billion-dollar franchise.

He would have had a chance for redemption at an earlier timeline, instead of drifting off so far into the universe, he struck a deal with the Mad Titan.

See, the deal he did with Thanos was that the God of Mischief would be provided with the Space Stone in his hands, and the previous MCU Big Bad would lend Loki the power to wield the Chitauri army. Enough to take over New York.

However, given that he failed to do so meant his impending doom was growing near, as soon as Thanos heard about it. But then, this isn’t the main timeline Loki we’re talking about, but a variant of his.

Given that Marvel had greatly emphasized the importance of the Infinity Stones, MCU fans find it hard to believe we’re slowly embarking away from it now. So, why are they suddenly irrelevant in the Loki series?

The first thing you have to understand about the Loki series is that the solo series is spotlighting another Loki variant and a different purpose altogether.

If anything, the series adds up to the movies and series you could watch to fully understand how Marvel’s Multiverse works in their universe.

Now then, as early as Loki Season 1 Episode 1, the series depicted that the Infinity Stones don’t work in the Time Variance Authority’s headquarters. Casey had even claimed they were only used as paperweights due to their abundance.

That said, Loki is led to believe that the TVA most likely possesses the ‘greatest power in the universe’, given that the most powerful stones are disposable in their world.

But there’s another reason behind the Infinity Stones’ portrayal of being useless now. Like many other franchises, the act of moving towards a new narrative should be done seamlessly, and the Loki series did exactly this.

The God of Trickeries was introduced to the new big bad in the MCU, Kang the Conqueror, along with his multiple variants, indicating that we are now entering a new era past the Infinity Saga.

Now, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes must face the potential multiversal war, with Victor Timely coming up next in Loki Season 2.
