MCU diehards were pretty much stunned when Loki died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, especially considering the God of Mischief has cheated death on several occasions.

However, many were not as convinced as the rest that Loki would die simply because he underestimated tricking the Mad Titan with the Tesseract.

This is Loki we’re talking about here, a character who literally died in the previous Thor movies only to revive himself over and over again.

But since Tom Hiddleston is playing the same character in his own MCU series, and with the prominence of Marvel’s Multiverse in the view, which Loki variant have we been watching in the Loki series?

Marvel’s Multiverse had just been a concept in the billion-dollar franchise’s cinematic franchise up until the first Doctor Strange film introduced it.

However, the main MCU characters had not been made aware of this until after the Avengers were successful in making their Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame.

After Thanos had choked Loki to death, the next time we saw Loki was in Endgame, right when the Avengers traveled back in time to return the Infinity Stones to their rightful places.

At the time, the Loki we saw who was still alive during the Time Heist is not the Loki we have been watching on the main MCU timeline. This Time Heist Loki is none other than a variant from another timeline.

Although both Loki variants shared the same history, Thanos never killed Time Heist Loki from his timeline. It is the same Loki we get to see in the Loki series.

In fact, since the character development the main MCU Loki went through has not yet come to Time Heist Loki’s experience, the Loki series merely gave him time to watch main Loki’s memories.

Memories in which Time Heist Loki discovered that his other variant got to spend more time with his brother Thor and the other Avengers.

Now that we’ve established which Loki variant is in the Loki series, this opens up even more questions such as, which Loki variant is the strongest among the rest?

We’ve already seen plenty of Loki variants in the Loki series, but just to refresh your memory: President Loki, Boastful Loki, Kid Loki, Alligator Loki, Sylvie (Lady Loki), Classic Loki, and of course, main MCU timeline Loki.

There had been other Loki variants that were briefly shown in the Time Variance Authority’s database, but let’s focus on those that Time Heist Loki actually got to interact with.

President Loki’s strength lies in deception and his allegiance. He managed to fool many of the other Loki variants just for his own advantage.

However, once they found out his true colors, his army of variants (especially Alligator Loki who took his hand) attacked him.

Boastful Loki revealed in Loki Season 1 Episode 5 that he vanquished Captain America and Iron Man, leading him to claim the Infinity Stones for himself. Unfortunately, Alligator Loki was quick to call out on this BS, though.

Kid Loki and Alligator Loki are somewhat of a good pair as they are always seen together on the small screen of the series. However, given their unusual forms from the original Loki, their powers have yet to reach their full potential.

As for Lady Loki or Sylvie, she is definitely significantly weaker than most of the Loki variants mentioned. To be fair, unlike the other variants, she wasn’t trained and like Kid Loki, she has yet to reach her full potential, too.

We have barely seen her use her powers in the first season, so it is possible we’re going to see more in the upcoming Season 2.

The strongest Loki variant is most likely Classic Loki. Yes, the old one with the flashy yellow suit.

Combining his shapeshifting and space-time manipulative powers with varying training experience under the swordsmen of Asgard, he also had the common sense to face Thanos and survive. How, exactly?

As the Classic Loki told last season, he cast a projection of himself ‘so real, even the Mad Titan believed it’ which caused his survival in the battle against Thanos. He can travel through his own green portals at his will, without the need for the Tesseract.

Let’s not forget he managed to cast a projection of the entirety of Asgard in a matter of minutes to protect him and Time Heist Loki and Sylvie ‘til the end.
