Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Loki Season 2 Episode 3, so read at your own risk!

The post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania showed Loki and Mobius encountering the Kang variant Victor Timely at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The God of Mischief looked horrified as he realized that he was a variant of He Who Remains.

At that time, MCU fans were confused about the context of that particular scene aside from being a tease of what we will see in the second season of Loki, but it was certainly an important scene that they should take note of.

The trailers for the new season also gave us more look at Timely's involvement and it looks like he will be a key to the dilemma that the TVA is facing.

Now, the recently-aired third episode has finally addressed who Victor Timely is and why Loki and Mobius are at that timeline.

In the third episode of Loki season 2, as the TVA is trying to fix the temporal loom, Loki and Mobius head to Chicago in 1868 in an attempt to find Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes, who might be the key to overrunning it.

After realizing that they're not present in that timeline, they head next to the same place in 1893 in the branched timeline and arrive at the Chicago World's Fair.

As they wandered around, the duo found an advertisement of Victor Timely presenting his "Temporal Marvels" and decided to check out the show. They quickly spotted Renslayer inside but decided not to approach her.

The presentation started and Timely showed up with a device that looked like a temporal loom. As he revealed himself, Loki realized that he was a variant of He Who Remains which caused him to be concerned (as we already saw in Quantumania).

Timely explained the functions of the loom and claimed that time could create power. Then, he declared his ambition to power the entire planet with his device and the crowd started to look impressed.

Mobius suggested bringing Timely to the TVA since he has the skills to fix and possibly overrun the system of the loom. As Renslayer reached out to Timely, he was approached by multiple businessmen who wanted to nab the patent. He eventually made a deal with one of them after a bidding war.

The rest of the episode saw a cat-and-mouse chase and fight between Loki and Mobius and Renslayer with Miss Minutes and Sylvie interfering with their respective agendas as well. In the end, the former side prevailed and they were able to bring him to the TVA.

Thanks to the third episode of the current season, we finally know the full context of Victor Timely's appearance that was teased in Quantumania. Aside from being a Kang variant, he is a potential key to the dilemma that the TVA is facing since he is similar to the now-dead He Who Remains.

Whether Timely does end up lending help to the TVA and becomes a "good" variant of Kang, it remains to be seen for now, but it is an interesting way for them to explore the villain in a different way and a showcase for Jonathan Majors to show more of his acting chops in the role.

New episodes of the second season of Loki premiere every Thursday night on Disney+.
