There is little doubt that fans were thrilled when Lars Mikkelsen was officially announced to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka. Interestingly, the Sherlock actor may have teased that the character will not be the same as the one we have already met Star Wars Rebels.
Lars Mikkelsen Addresses Possible Differences Between Animated and Live-Action Thrawn
Lars Mikkelsen recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Thrawn's live-action debut in Ahsoka and he addressed the possibility that there will be some differences once the character returns.
"In many ways, it's the same character. He's based on the same material. But we needed to think: Do this right," he said.
There's a good reason as to why the new Thrawn will be somehow different in Ahsoka. After all, several years have passed since he and Ezra Bridger disappeared in Star Wars Rebels. By the time Ahsoka Tano catches up with him, Thrawn might be a changed man.
With that in mind, we can't wait to see whether Thrawn went through major changes.
Lars Mikkelsen also shared his initial reaction when Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni asked him to return as Thrawn.
"When David finally asked me if I wanted to do it, there were no doubts," he admitted. "Of course, I wanted to do that, so I'm very excited."
"But [as far as] the transition between Rebels and the actual live-action character? I hope it works!" Mikkelsen added.
It's certainly an exciting thought and seeing Lars Mikkelsen as the live-action Thrawn is something to truly look forward to. With that in mind, we can't wait for the premiere of Ahsoka later this year.
Ahsoka will also star Rosario Dawson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Hayden Christensen, Ivanna Sakhno, and the late Ray Stevenson. The series will consist of eight episodes and is currently scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in August 2023.
