Following its announcement back in May, Masashi Kishimoto will finally release his new Naruto one-shot manga featuring Minato Namikaze this July.

This is an exciting new one-shot for Naruto fans, especially as this is Kishimoto’s first work in his original series in over seven years.

Aside from being made to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Naruto anime, this one-shot will also be released as part of the 55th-anniversary celebration of Shueisha’s iconic manga magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump.

Last year was the 20th anniversary of the Naruto anime by Pierrot, and to celebrate, several projects were made, including a special poll that asks fans to vote on their favorite character from the franchise.

A few months ago, the results of the poll were revealed. Interestingly, it wasn’t Naruto or Sasuke that topped the poll. Instead, it was Naruto’s dad, Minato Namikaze, who took the top spot.

This wasn’t just a poll made for fun though, as Kishimoto revealed that he will work on a special one-shot manga featuring the winning character.

In May, Kishimoto revealed that he has begun working on the one-shot, marking his first full return to the Naruto series in over seven years.

While Kishimoto has been active with projects in the franchise (as he even returned to write Boruto), most of his involvement was on the writing side. But this one-shot is wholly created by Kishimoto.

On top of this, Minato is one of the strongest shinobi in the series, so a manga featuring him is something that fans are no doubt looking forward to.

Finally, the Minato one-shot’s release date was revealed by Shonen Jump. Details about the manga’s release were shared on the official Naruto website.

On the site, a teaser visual featuring a young Minato was shared, along with info about its story.

As expected, the one-shot will follow Minato’s past as he develops a new kind of ninjutsu.

This one-shot’s official title is NARUTO Gaiden: Uzu no Naka no Tsumujikaze, and it will be released in the 55th-anniversary issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, Issue 33. The issue will be available in Japan beginning July 18.

The one-shot will feature color centerfold pages and will be 55 pages long. It is also expected that an English version will be released on Manga Plus.

Along with this new Minato one-shot, Weekly Shonen Jump will also feature a one-shot for KochiKame, one of the magazine’s most iconic titles.
