Naoko Yamada is finally back with her next project, and it is getting released in the US. After it got a trailer back in March, The Colors Within was picked up by distribution company GKIDS for a US release.

In Japan, the film is titled Kimi no Iro, and its trailer revealed the film’s release date, as well as its main voice cast members.

On top of these reveals, the trailer also shows off the film’s eye-catching visuals courtesy of its studio. Plus, snippets of the film’s soundtrack can also be heard in the new trailer.

Even though it’s not part of a popular franchise, the movie promises to be a must-watch for many anime fans thanks to its notable creators and studio.

Who Are The Colors Within’s Creators and Studio?

The Colors Within is an upcoming film that follows Totsuko Higarashi, a high school student who can see the emotions of people as colors. She soon meets Kimi and Louis, and the three form a band.

Directing the film is Naoko Yamada, the director of popular titles like K-On! and A Silent Voice. She is joined once again by writer Reiko Yoshida and music composer Kensuke Ushio.

The trio has worked on many anime together, the most recent of which is The Heike Story, which was produced by Science SARU.

For their latest project, the trio have once again teamed up with Science SARU, the studio behind works like Devilman Crybaby and the upcoming Dandadan anime.

The Colors Within Voice Cast Members Revealed

Also revealed are the film’s main cast members. Surprisingly, the cast is not made up of popular voice actors. Instead, the four cast members are known more for their roles in Japanese dramas.

The cast includes:

  • Sayu Suzukawa as Totsuko Higurashi
  • Akari Takaishi as Kimi Sakunaga
  • Taisei Kido as Louis Kagehira
  • Yui Aragaki as Sister Hiyoko

Of the four, Yui Aragaki may be the most well-known in anime circles.

Aside from voicing Yoshino Fujieda in Digimon Data Squad, she is also the wife of Gen Hoshino, the singer of Spy x Family's first ending theme titled Comedy.

The Colors Within Is Coming to the US

After successfully bringing Hayao Miyazaki's The Boy and the Heron to the US, GKIDS announced via its official X (formerly Twitter) account that it has acquired the rights to The Colors Within.

GKIDS also confirmed that it will bring the film to the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival this June for its World Premiere.

In a report by Anime News Network, GKIDS is confirmed to release the new Naoko Yamada film in North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the film will be distributed by Anime Ltd. in most of Europe, and PLAION PICTURES in Italian and German-speaking regions.

For now, there's no word yet on a release date for the film in the US, though fans in Japan will be able to see it this summer.

Kimi no Iro Trailer Reveals August Release Date in Japan

The cast members were revealed in the film’s new trailer. This trailer also showcases the eye-catching visuals of the film courtesy of Science SARU.

Finally, the trailer confirmed that Kimi no Iro will be released in Japanese cinemas on August 30, 2024.
