Last week, it was reported that Marvel Studios is considering bringing back the original Avengers cast members for a new movie including Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson, whose respective characters died in Endgame.

While some fans have presumed that they will all return in Secret Wars, there were some concerns that their return might just ruin their sendoff in Endgame and felt that bringing them back is Marvel Studios' desperate attempt to return to the franchise's glory days.

Nevertheless, plenty of fans are open to seeing them return for one last adventure in the MCU and, given that we are in the Multiverse Saga, it might be inevitable to happen in the near future.

However, it looks like their comeback might not happen at all as the head of Marvel Studios has debunked the report.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight during the premiere event of The Marvels, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked about the reports regarding the alleged MCU return of Downey Jr. and Johansson.

First, Feige stated that he was not aware of the rumor. When he was told that a report came that their potential return was discussed in their recent retreat, he denied that the idea came around.

"We did not discuss that at the retreat. It’s the truth. We’re doing a project with Scarlett, I love Robert, he’s a part of the family. But in terms of returning? We’ll have to see," he said.

Despite what the rumors and reports have suggested, it looks like Downey Jr. and Johansson's on-screen comeback in the MCU has not been set yet after all.

While they might still return in Secret Wars, it sounds like Marvel Studios has not officially committed yet to the idea of bringing them back, and, obviously, the actor also needs to agree which may result in asking for a massive payday if they are interested to return.

It might take a while before we'll hear an actual update on whether Downey Jr., Johansson, and their fellow OG Avengers agree to team up together again since we're still years away before Secret Wars, but for now, we can definitely say that none of it has been set.

Avengers: Secret Wars is slated for release in theaters on May 7, 2027.
