Kevin Conroy Says Ben Affleck Pulled Off His Role As Batman

Sure a lot of DC fans might think that Ben Affleck's Batman is one of the best live-action versions of the caped crusader, but others aren't that convinced. To some, Christian Bale's Batman from the Dark Knight Trilogy is the best version of the hero. To others, it's Michael Keaton.

Speaking with fans at a panel at this year's MCM London (via Comicbook.com), Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy decided to open up about the DC Extended Universe's iteration of the character. Though Conroy acknowledges the initial reaction fans had when they heard that Affleck was cast as the franchise's Batman, the iconic voice actor believes that it's unfair that audiences immediately judged Affleck's Batman without even giving him a chance.

"Well, the one thing I will say about that, and I'm not going to get into commenting on actor's performances. I don't know if you're aware, you probably are, in the Twitterverse and on the Internet, there was a lot of criticism when he got cast. Saying 'Oh my god! He's going to be terrible!' And I was telling people 'Wait a minute! Give this guy a chance! He's a good actor. Let's see what he does with it, you know?'"

Conroy then went on to praise Affleck's performance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, saying the actor did great in the film and that he struck the perfect balance in playing both Bruce Wayne and Batman.

"He really pulled it off. I thought he was really good. So I'm more in his court than a lot of people are, I guess. I think people gave him a hard time before they even saw what he would do with it. There's a lot of pre-judging."

The Batman: The Animated Series voice actor isn't the only one who loved Affleck's work in Batman v Superman. The film might not have been the best superhero movie, but Affleck shone as the Dark Knight. The Gone Girl actor and director had the cold broodiness that we've come to love in our Caped Crusader, and it was great seeing an older and grizzled version of the hero on the big screen. Now, if only Warner Bros. could manage to write a good script for Affleck. Let's hope that Matt Reeve's The Batman is worth our while.

The Batman doesn't have a release date just yet, but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
