Whether fans like it or not, Batman V Superman has become the face of the DCEU for better or worse. Because of this film, some moviegoers associate DC with forced darkness and poorly paced storytelling. True, films like Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League have tried adding more color and heart to the brand but only one of these films was a critical success.
The executives in Warner Bros. are hoping to turn the tide with December's Aquaman and next year's Shazam and Wonder Woman 2. It seems like Shazam director David F. Sandberg isn't afraid to poke some fun at the company's past flaws, as he has shared a fun parody of a scene from Batman V Superman.
Everyone is familiar with the scene where a family stranded in a rooftop after a flood looks to the sun and see a messiah-like Superman. This scene has been parodied by Deadpool 2 and now Sandberg's Shazam.
As the family looks to their savior for salvation, we see Shazam taking a sip from his drink, paying homage to the first official movie image released. It's the right kind of parody and should put a smile on the face of many DC fans.
Shazam hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
