What Are Yuji Itadori's Powers and Abilities?
Even before becoming a jujutsu sorcerer, Yuji possessed superhuman strength. This made sports clubs in his school seek him out.
In Jujutsu High, he's one of the most talented and promising students. Despite having no jujutsu background, he catches up quickly. Soon, he's able to exorcise special-grade curses.
Yuji is also impressive in hand-to-hand combat. In Season 1, he holds his own against Todo, a very skilled martial artist. His reflexes and stamina are also great.
Of course, being a curious and fast learner also plays a role. After all, Yuji joined his peers late and had a lot to catch up with.
Yuji's Cursed Energy
Yuji's cursed energy seems to stem from Sukuna. After eating Sukuna's fingers, the special grade curse's energy becomes his to control. So far, he's done a great job.
Unlike other characters, Yuji doesn't have his innate technique. However, his Divergent Fist and Black Flash prove his good command of cursed energy.
The former is an iconic, very strong punch while the latter allows him to manipulate space.
So, Why Is Yuji Itadori So Strong?
Consuming Sukuna's fingers greatly increased Yuji's power; not that he didn't have incredible strength before.
The anime has yet to explain Yuji's superhuman strength, but possible answers lie in later manga chapters, which we discuss below.
Kenjaku's Experimentation
One possible explanation for Yuji's superhuman strength is Kenjaku's experimentation.
Chapter 143 of the manga gives us a glimpse of Yuji's mother. She sports head scars similar to Kenjaku's.
We find out that Kenjaku possessed Yuji's mother before she gave birth to him.
As such, the ancient sorcerer's spirit could have amplified Yuji's strength.
Shounen Anime Conventions
For those who don't want to overthink why Yuji Itadori is so strong, anime tropes could be an adequate answer.
Shounen anime are characterized by stylized battles and a main character who strives to get stronger. Sometimes, this protagonist starts off as weak.
On the other hand, some anime begin with a character that is already strong but needs to perfect himself before facing their main opponent.
If you consider this, Yuji's strength isn't the most outrageous element in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Will Yuji Become Stronger Than Gojo?
As of writing, the manga still treats Gojo as one of the most powerful jujutsu sorcerers. Of course, Yuji may well become the strongest if he survives.
Gojo himself mentions in the manga that the younger generation will surpass him one day.
Some anime fans believe that once Yuji eats all of Sukuna's fingers, he can come to his full strength.
Things are a bit more complicated in the manga, and we'll avoid delving into the most recent spoilers.
That being said, shounen titles often end with the protagonist becoming the strongest or the best of his kind.
As a member of the dark trio of shounen anime, Jujutsu Kaisen is going down a less-trodden path.
Even so, we could see Yuji becoming the strongest jujutsu sorcerer alive, especially if he somehow manages to defeat Sukuna.
