Takahiro Sakurai has chosen not to renew his contract with Intention. The talent agency has confirmed that their contract with the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 actor ended on the last day of March 2023.
On March 31, Intention Representative Director Kenichi Suzumura and Atsushi Kuwabara shared an official statement regarding Takahiro Sakurai's contract.
"We have decided to terminate our affiliation contract with Takahiro Sakurai on the 31st of March, 2023," the statement reads. "Following a series of reports, our company took the matter seriously, and as we continued discussions on our future activities, Sakurai offered to leave the agency. After much deliberations, we concluded with respect for the feelings of the actor."
The statement also wished Sakurai well in his future endeavours.
For his part, Takahiro Sakurai shared a statement regarding his decision to terminate the contract.
"I offered to leave because of my own fault," Sakurai said in the statement. "Leaving the office is one of the ways I can take responsibility, and I think it is my own fault to express my thoughts through action."
"As an individual, I will try to move forward on my own," Sakurai added before apologizing to fans.
Takahiro Sakurai has been with the talent agency since 2014. The decision to leave Intention comes after the voice actor faced major controversies for a decade-long extramarital affair with a writer he worked with.
Since the controversy, Takahiro Sakurai has been removed from GoRA and King Records' original anime project Ayaka: A Story of Bonds and Wounds as well as the Mononoke movie. On the other hand, he is expected to keep some major projects amidst the controversy.
In addition to providing the voice of Suguru Geto in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Takahiro Sakurai is expected to reprise his role as Giyu Tomioka in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3.
