MAPPA Stage 2023 may not have revealed new seasons for shows like Chainsaw Man, but fans had a lot to be thrilled about. A new Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 trailer was shared, and it excited fans for the work of new director Shouta Goshozono.

Previously, it was revealed that Season 1 director Sunghoo Park will not return for Season 2.

Instead, Shouta Goshozono is taking his place. And based on the trailer, the director change can be seen in the fight scenes.

Sunghoo Park is a well-known director who not only helmed the first season but also served as the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie’s director. Many fans attribute the anime’s style to Park’s work.

Though it seems that Park is too busy to return for Season 2. After all, an original anime work by Park is currently in the works, with a Disney+ release scheduled soon.

Fans weren’t worried about the change though, especially as the new director, Goshozono, is a well-known animator that many anime fans hold in high regard.

Goshozono or Gosso as he’s affectionately called by fans, has not directed an entire anime series yet.

Instead, he has worked as an episode director for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, as well as a key animator for other action anime.

Gosso is perhaps best known for his key animation work on some iconic scenes from a wide range of anime.

For instance, he worked on the memorable Chainsaw Man Episode 8, as well as Mob Psycho 100 II’s fourth episode.

His animation work is popular enough that fans celebrate these scenes as “Gosso cinema” moments.

Fans Can’t Wait for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 ‘Gosso Cinema’

The recent MAPPA Stage event featured the release of Season 2’s second trailer, and it featured snippets of the exciting Hidden Inventory arc fights, which promise to feature more “Gosso cinema” scenes.

Following the trailer’s release, many fans expressed their excitement for the season. They also showered the scenes with praise, with compliments directed at the coloring and animation choices.

Another aspect of these scenes that was praised is the compositing works. In anime, compositing refers to how the different layers of the animation blend together.

The first season was well-animated, though some fans believe that certain animated scenes did not blend well with the backgrounds.

From the looks of it, that is not the case with Season 2 based on the trailers.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will premiere on July 6, 2023, though there’s no word yet on which platform it will be streamed on outside Japan.
