Jordan Peele Reportedly Wanted To Turn Gargoyles Series Into A Live-Action Reboot

Now that Jordan Peele is done with Academy Award-winning film Get out, it looks like the comedian-turned-filmmaker is trying to go after a different kind of project, hoping to reboot the animated Gargoyles television series and turn it into a live-action movie.

According to Slash Film, Richard Rushfield just revealed in the latest issue of The Ankler, the Hollywood entertainment industry's newsletter, that Peele actually wants to adapt Gargoyles and turn it into a feature-length movie.

Peele had already pitched his concept on his take on a Gargoyles adaptation to Disney, but according to the report, the Get Out director was turned down. However, it seems like Disney's changed their mind about the project, wanting to reach out to Peele and talk about his pitch. But now, Rushfield says that he's confident that this time Peele might be a bit too busy dealing with other projects when Disney finally comes around.

"How do you turn down Jordan Peele? Well, you can't. Who wants to be responsible for that decision? So in the absence of a good reason to say no, but prevented by their Big IP box from saying yes, Disney is slow walking the decision. It's hoping, it seems, that they'll run out the clock, he'll sign other deals elsewhere, and the project will just fade away."

For those who aren't familiar with Gargoyles, the animated television series was produced by Walt Disney and aired from 1994 to 1997. Noted for its dark tone and complex plot, the Gargoyle series received favorable comparison to the critically-acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series.

If this report about Peele wanting a Gargoyle film adaptation is true, it's definitely such a shame that Disney turned down the director the first time.
