Joker Arrives in Oscar Nominations Shortlist for Two Different Categories

Todd Phillips' Joker movie has been getting some major recognition at the awards circuit this month, grabbing four nominations at the Golden Globes (Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Actor) and seven nominations at the 25th Critics Choice Awards (including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay).

But that's not all. Warner Brothers' gritty character study of Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime just recently garnered recognition at the Oscars, making it into the 92nd Academy Awards shortlist.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just recently released a shortlist for a number of the different categories ahead of the Oscars' final nominations, and this includes two nominations for Joaquin Phoenix's comic book movie.

Joker has been shortlisted in the Makeup and Hairstyling category, competing with films like Bombshell, Dolemite is My Name, Downton Abbey, Little Women, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, Maleficent Mistress of Evil, Judy, and Rocketman.

The film has also been listed under the category for Best Original Score and is competing for the title with other films like Avengers: Endgame, The Farewell, Bombshell, Ford v Ferarri, Frozen II, Jojo Rabbit, The King, Marriage Story, Little Women, Motherless Brooklyn, Pain and Glory, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Us, and 1917.

Fans might be wondering why Joker hasn't been shortlisted for major awards, but the Academy has yet to reveal its list for categories like Best Picture and Best Director. We're crossing our finger hoping that the film does make the list and that it wins big at next year's Oscars.

Joker is getting an Ultra HD and Blu-Ray release on January 7, 2020.
