Superman: Red Son Officially Comes Out in March

WB may be having a hard time trying to get a live-action Superman movie made, but the Man of Steel continues to be in some animated movies. The next animated film from the studio is an adaptation of Mark Millar's brilliant Superman: Red Son, and we now have a release date for the film.

WB (via CBM) has announced that Superman: Red Son will arrive on digital Feb. 25, 2020, with the 4K, Blu-Ray release on March 17, 2020.

The movie will also come with some extra features including a sneak preview at the upcoming Justice League Dark: Apokolips War and a short from Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) called The Phantom Stranger.

I have to say, Superman: Red Son is probably one of my favorite Millar stories, and I absolutely love how he turned the mythos of Superman over its head. While the comic itself is pretty solid, I have a feeling that this animated film will try to add some more action to it to give the movie a little more edge. Hopefully, it will be more good than bad, because the Batgirl extended scenes from the Killing Joke movie felt like they were absolutely unnecessary.

Based on DC's famed Elseworlds tale from 2003, Superman: Red Son takes place in an alternate reality where the spaceship bearing the last survivor of Krypton crash lands – not in rural Kansas, but in Stalinist Russia. Can this Cold War-era Earth survive the coming of a Soviet Superman?

Catch Superman: Red Son when it hits digital Feb. 25, 2020, and Blu-Ray/DVD on March 17, 2020.
