J.K. Rowling Receives Support from Another Harry Potter Actor Amidst Backlash

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been a controversial figure for the past couple of years due to her views regarding transgender people which have been deemed as transphobic by LGBT organizations and some feminists.

A lot of fans and several actors in the Harry Potter film series including the main trio have opposed Rowling's views and called her out publicly. There are also some actors in the franchise such as Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter who have thrown their support for the author amidst the backlash she's receiving.

Now, another actor from the Harry Potter film series has shown their support for the author. In an interview with The Telegraph (via Variety), Jim Broadbent, who played Professor Horace Slughorn, defended Rowling from the backlash that she has received in the last couple of years.

"It’s really sad. I think J.K. Rowling is amazing. I haven’t had to confront [the backlash] myself, but I would support her in that, I think, if it came to it," he said.

Recently, Max (the upcoming new name of HBO Max) announced that they are working on a Harry Potter TV series that will serve as a reboot of the franchise. The news was also met with backlash from fans who questioned the necessity of the project and Rowling's involvement in the midst of her controversy.

However, the author seems to be unbothered by the backlash when she tweeted about her response recently.

"Dreadful news, which I feel duty bound to share. Activists in my mentions are trying to organise yet another boycott of my work, this time of the Harry Potter TV show," Rowling tweeted.

"As forewarned is forearmed, I've taken the precaution of laying in a large stock of champagne."

Despite the backlash that the news received, Max and Rowling are still keen on making the project as they have committed to a decades-long run for the series.
