James Gunn shared a new behind-the-scenes photo from the set of Superman in celebration of the hero's comic debut anniversary.

Production is still underway for the highly-anticipated DCU movie, but a lot of fans are already looking forward to seeing the new take on the Man of Steel and the first theatrical project from the reboot franchise.

Today marks the anniversary of Superman's first appearance in the comics and, to celebrate, Gunn recruited the main stars of the film to pay homage to the character.

In his recent post on Instagram, Gunn shared a photo of him, David Corenswet (Clark Kent/Superman), and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) reading Superman comics on the set of the DCU movie to celebrate the hero's anniversary.

Corenswet is reading a random issue of Action Comics, Gunn is reading a reproduction of Superman #1, and Brosnahan is reading All-Star Superman, which is known to be one of the film's inspirations.

"On this day in 1938 the first superhero entered our atmosphere via the imaginations of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster," Gunn wrote in the caption.

"He gave us someone to believe in, not because of his great physical power, but because of his character and determination to do right no matter what. Happy #Superman Day to all of you! #UpUpandAway"

While the photo didn't show any peek at the hero's costume or major spoiler details about the story, it is still an exciting glimpse at the film that could hype some fans.

However, the comics that were shown in the photo (aside from All-Star Superman which we already know is an inspiration) could also be a clue on what we could see in the film.

Fans should expect more news and updates about the DCU movie in the coming weeks as filming is still ongoing.

Superman is scheduled for release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
