James Gunn Reportedly Wants RRR Star in His DCU

James Gunn is an expert at debunking rumors and dropping hints about his new DC Universe. Whenever the filmmaker says that he would want to work with a specific actor, chances are there are already talks of DCU involvement.

Since his transfer from Marvel to DC, Gunn has repeatedly communicated that he wants to bring the Guardians of the Galaxy team with him, and so far, the cast members have echoed the director’s sentiments.

As of the moment, a few Marvel stars have already made their jumps to DC, and there’s a possibility that there will be more. But now, Gunn has made a comment regarding another actor from another franchise that he would want to work with if given the chance.

The Indian film RRR gathered a positive response upon its release, and the effective portrayal of one of the actors, N.T. Rama Rao Jr. was just one of the factors in the film's success. The actor has also caught the attention of the MCU and DC directors.

In an interview with News18, Gunn said he is open to working with the Telgu actor on a future project. The filmmaker did not disclose whether this project is related to DC, but given that he acts as the co-CEO of the franchise, the chances linger in the air.

“Who is the guy from RRR that’s so good… What’s his name? RRR, the big one from last year? With all the tigers coming out of the cage and everything? That guy! I would love to work with that guy someday. So amazing, so cool. I don’t know, I would have to figure that one out. That would take a little while.” he said.

The Peacemaker creator also remarked that Bollywood influenced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so it’s likely that he intends to bring that as well to the new DCU. For now, the third film in the Guardians series is his final contribution to the MCU.

“What I love about Indian cinema and Bollywood movies is they are all about art, and they are also all about entertainment. There are no rules about what a movie has to be, it could be a lot of different things and that’s true about the Guardians movies,” said Gunn.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in cinemas on May 5.
