Since the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was released, there have been questions about the future of the MCU cosmic team since the film was considered to be the final entry in the trilogy.

While the post-credits scene of the third film confirmed that Chris Pratt's Star-Lord will return in the future, the other cast members such as Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana are not expected to come back as they have moved on from the franchise.

James Gunn is also not returning to direct more Guardians of the Galaxy movies in the future since he is now the co-chairman of DC Studios and shepherding the new DCU franchise alongside Peter Safran.

So far, Marvel Studios has not announced any plans to continue the team's adventure in the MCU, but the end of the third film revealed the new line-up that is now led by Rocket.

A fan recently asked Gunn on Threads regarding what he wants to see in future Guardians of the Galaxy movies and whether he is currently on good terms with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

The director said that he would love to see the Guardians of the Galaxy series continue with the team and he believes that Kevin Feige, who he is on "great terms" with, will be able to choose the right director for the job.

"Kevin and I are on great terms. Although a few characters aren’t coming back, I’d love for GotG to continue with the current members + and I’d trust Kevin to pick the right person for that," Gunn wrote in his response.

Some fans would also love to see more Guardians of the Galaxy movies with the new team even though some of the beloved characters are no longer part of it.

However, it poses a question of whether fans are also willing to see more standalone movies of the team without Gunn's involvement even if the director gave a seal of approval for Marvel to do future installments without him.

Considering what Gunn brought to the style and tone of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, it will be difficult footsteps to follow for the new direction that Marvel may hire although you can also argue that a fresh take might also be what they need since it is a new line-up after all.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is available to stream on Disney+.
