South Korean artist Yongseok Jo writes and illustrates the Wind Breaker manhwa, while Japanese manga artist Satoru Nii is the creator of the Wind Breaker manga.

Both works are currently ongoing, with the manhwa having issued 25 volumes on Line Webtoon in English and Naver Webtoon in Korean, while the manga has released 16 volumes, 14 of which have been translated into English by Kodansha USA.

Despite having the same title, the Wind Breaker manga and manhwa are not related at all. They explore separate genres and have different main characters, so don't expect any crossover between the two.

Understandably, these two works are often confused because they're both major mega-hits among manhwa and manga fans, especially now that CloverWorks' Wind Breaker anime for the spring 2024 season has premiered.

Is CloverWorks’ Wind Breaker Anime Based on a Manhwa or Manga?

No, CloverWorks' latest yanki, adventure, and martial arts anime, Wind Breaker, is not inspired by Yongseok Jo's sports manhwa series of the same name.

Instead, it's based on Satoru Nii's ongoing manga story which began serialization on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket manga website in January 2021.

The Wind Breaker manhwa centers around a character named Jay, who embodies the ideal student. He is the president of the student body and he consistently receives straight A grades.

Jay's scholastic life, however, changes when he becomes involved with the Hummingbird Crew, the school's biking team, which coerces him into joining.

While the Wind Breaker manhwa focuses on Jay's experiences on the biking team, the Wind Breaker anime follows Haruka Sakura, a first-year high school student at Bofurin High, a school known for its delinquent kids.

Haruka transfers to Bofurin High in the hopes of becoming the school's top dog after experiencing discrimination and condemnation from the public owing to his appearance rather than his actual behavior.

However, Haruka was unaware that Bofurin High had changed. The school's delinquent students have been regarded as heroes, defending the town and its residents against foolish delinquents enrolled in other schools.
