Sand Land is getting much attention again as the new anime series has finally premiered. With the show telling a new story, some fans wonder if Sand Land is connected to Dragon Ball.

Even though Akira Toriyama is best known for Dragon Ball, the esteemed manga artist has also created other popular titles.
One of these is Sand Land, a manga with a limited run that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2000.
Its story is set in a world that’s in danger of completely drying up. In response, Sheriff Rao enlists the help of the Demon Prince Beelzebub and his friend Thief to search for a new water supply.
Interest in the series was renewed when an anime film adaptation was released in August 2023. A video game adaptation is also set to be released in April 2024.
While the anime film told a complete story, a Sand Land anime series was also announced, and it finally premiered yesterday, March 20.
The first six episodes of this series are a re-cut version of the anime film. Meanwhile, the following episodes will tell a brand-new story.

Is Sand Land Connected to Dragon Ball?
Sand Land and Dragon Ball are made by the same creator, and they share a similar look in terms of world and character design. So, are they connected?
The simple answer is no, these two titles share no connection. Even though they may have some thematic and artistic links, the two series have completely different stories.

Possibly the biggest link, according to some fans, is the fact that Beelzebub’s father, Lucifer, looks very much like Dabura from the Majin Buu Saga.
This led some to believe that they’re either the same being or at the very least related. Of course, it’s more likely that Toriyama used a similar design for both characters.
Even though they’re not connected, Sand Land should still be a must-see for Dragon Ball fans, as it contains Toriyama’s signature humor and style.
