On the brink of ending X-Men '97 episode 1 titled To Me, My X-Men, the school alerts Cyclops and the others that someone has broken into the former professor's office.

To their surprise, they see their fiercest foe Magneto holding the Last Will and Testament of Charles Xavier while claiming that all of the professor's fortune, school, and everything else now "belongs" to him.

Keep in mind that while Magneto's goals align with protecting and empowering mutants as part of human society, he also wishes to eradicate the world from the "bigoted" genocide of his fellows, making him a dangerous man.

By episode 2 titled Mutant Liberation Begins, Magneto has been put in the spotlight to not only seek public opinion on whether he deserves the position or not, but also because not every X-Men trusts him to lead.

In the episode, he nearly killed the government for extracting Storm's powers from her by calling them "Bigot", "ingrate", "sycophant", and "worm" as they trembled in fear.

However, this is merely to give them a warning. Instead of eradication, he places them back down and pleads, "I am trying to be better. Please... do not make me let you down."

Despite Magneto's attempt to show his changed treatment towards humankind, his motives as the new leader remain uncertain at this point.

From Magneto's first appearance in X-Men '97, he has always held Professor X in high regard. In fact, his first line indicates that they have both kept their friendship going despite his many failures to be morally good in the past.

The second episode shows promise that Magneto may be the right leader who can save the world and at the same time, serve as his redemption from his past crimes.

"Charles Xavier entrusted me with his dream, and it does not ask you to love or embrace my kind as your own," Magneto explained, "But merely to accept that this is a shared world with a common future and that my kind, like yours, have the right to live in it."

Magneto may have the right goal at heart, but changing his method is what fans can look forward to seeing 'til the end.
