The events unfolding on Egghead Island are caused by the World Government’s ulterior motive to eliminate Dr. Vegapunk. He knows too much information, which poses a huge threat to the World Government. He made an alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates, but is Dr. Vegapunk still alive in One Piece?
Dr. Vegapunk’s identity has always been a mystery in the world of One Piece—that is, until his six satellites were revealed to the public and the Straw Hat Pirates reached Egghead Island.
For the most part, Dr. Vegapunk is known for his scientific research and experiments, which helped the Marines throughout the years!

Egghead Island Chaos: The World Government Is After Dr. Vegapunk’s Life
The World Government, notably the Five Elders, is after Dr. Vegapunk's life on Egghead Island.
To finish him off, one of the five elders, St. Jaygarcia Saturn, headed to the island with Kizaru and his enormous marine fleet to finish the job and secure their other goals, such as Vegapunk York, the mother flame (plant), and the Punk Records.
The CP0 launched an attack on the island, and Luffy, in his Gear 5th form, confronts Lucci. Sentomaru, as Dr. Vegapunk's personal guard, joined the combat after realizing the gravity of the situation.
He even requested that Luffy assist Dr. Vegapunk in escaping the island at all costs. This resulted in Sentomaru's position on the front lines, allowing the crew to escape to Labophase for a while.
But things aren't so simple, as Dr. Vegapunk also needs to worry about the traitor on the island who was toying with all of them.
It was later revealed that it was York who had been thinking selfishly about herself and how she could survive against the World Government.
Worse, York even hacked the island's defense system, which the main stella and Atlas were desperately trying to break.
So, Why Does the World Government Want to Kill Dr. Vegapunk?
Dr. Vegapunk is on the verge of discovering the truth about the Void Century, and they don't want him getting in their way. In short, they've had enough of Dr. Vegapunk's inquisitiveness.
Plus, the World Government believes Dr. Vegapunk's expertise poses a significant threat to them.
We all know how Dr. Vegapunk created the Pacifistas, mechanical sea beasts, satellites with his six personalities, extensive research on artificial devil fruits, and other things, and the moment Dr. Vegapunk abandons the World Government, it will be a tremendous problem.
Dr. Vegapunk had done a lot for the World Government in his quest to provide everyone with free energy.
It was the only thing he desired in the world since he felt the fighting would end soon the moment he could supply free energy.
He may not have the same perspective as the World Government, but he has no choice but to back them up since they have the advanced facilities he needs to further his research.
He is a man of knowledge, and it’s obvious that he’ll stay on the side where he can utilize his intelligence the most.
Is Dr. Vegapunk Still Alive?
As of One Piece Chapter 1092, Dr. Vegapunk is still alive and kicking on Egghead Island.
However, Dr. Vegapunk lost two of his satellites after York’s betrayal was revealed. Not only did Dr. Vegapunk lose Shaka, but he also lost Pythagoras.
Dr. Vegapunk, along with the Straw Hat Pirates, are now in a pinch after they were pursued by none other than Kizaru, along with eight vice-admirals and a massive marine fleet ready to take them all down.
They will have to deal with York’s betrayal in order to escape the island. They also have to defeat Kizaru as well as the seraphims, who switched sides after their authority chip was taken from Sentomaru.
