The story of The 100 Girlfriends follows Rentarou, who is depressed after the 100th girl he asks out turns him down.

Filled with desperation, he turns to prayer for guidance, only to receive a surprising revelation from a divine entity – the God of Love.

The deity explains that the string of rejections was the result of a cosmic blunder.

But now this benevolent god has a plan to make amends by ensuring Rentarou gets 100 soulmates.

However, in a typical divine fashion, there is a twist. Each of these 100 girls is destined to be Rentarou’s soulmate.

Even worse, if he fails to reciprocate their affections, a series of unfortunate and comical accidents would befall them. In short, if Rentarou rejects a girl, she will die.

No, The 100 Girlfriends is not an ecchi anime series. From the looks of the first episode, it is evident that it will have some risqué scenes.

However, it is definitely not an ecchi anime. For instance, the first episode is rather conservative in terms of showing skin.

The upcoming episodes may open up and we get to see more of the characters in action. But the anime falling into the ecchi genre is highly unlikely.

Yes, The 100 Girlfriends is an out-and-out romance harem anime.

In the very first episode titled The 2 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really Love You (98 To Go), Hakari Hanazono and Karane Inda fall for Rentarou.

After the God of Love’s blessing, Rentarou enters high school and on the first day, both Hakari and Karane confess their love to him.

After the confession, he is forced to choose one of them as his girlfriend.

But then he remembers the words of the God of Love that the girl he doesn’t pick will perish.

He decides that he will tell them that he can’t go out with either of them and that he will privately go out with both of them.

However, when the time comes to share his feelings, he ends up telling them that he will date both of them at the same time.

And that’s how Rentarou’s extreme harem kickstarts in The 100 Girlfriends.
