I’m in Love with the Villainess is not your typical yuri anime as it’s also an isekai series, similar to The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess which got a lot of attention earlier this year.

Instead of being set in a fantasy world though, I’m in Love with the Villainess transports its protagonist into an otome game, making it seem sort of like a yuri version of Romantic Killer.

The show’s new trailer highlights its interesting setting and main cast. You can watch it here:

Villainess stars Yuu Serizawa as the protagonist Rae Taylor. Serizawa is best known as the voice of Iroha Igarashi in 3D Kanojo: Real Girl, Kaname Arisugawa in Tonikawa, and Yumemi Yumemite in Kakegurui.

Joining Serizawa is Karin Nanami as the “villainess” Claire François. Nanami is known for several major anime roles such as Meiya Mitsurugi in Muv-Luv Alternative and Yuriko Nishinotouin in Kakegurui.

Typically, isekai stories follow a main character who dies because of an accident, usually caused by a truck for some reason. But in Villainess, the main character dies due to overwork.

Soon, the protagonist is reincarnated as Rae Taylor, the heroine of her favorite otome game. Though she has no interest in the world’s three romance routes.

Instead, her interest lies in Claire François, the game’s “villainess.” Armed with knowledge about the game’s scenarios, Rae aims to become a couple with Claire despite the game’s limitations.

I’m in Love with the Villainess will be released on October 2, 2023. In Japan, the series will air on Tokyo MX and BS NTV.

Meanwhile, fans in the US and other selected regions can watch the show when it streams on Crunchyroll after each episode airs in Japan.
