Sir Ian McKellen has been known for his various iconic roles throughout his decades-long career whether it's Magneto in the X-Men films or Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films.

At the current age of 84, the renowned English actor still has a thriving acting career on both screen and stage and it feels like nothing is stopping him anytime soon as he is still attached to do more projects.

After all, there are rumors that he is set to reprise the role of Magneto again in the upcoming MCU film Deadpool 3 for a significant appearance although that remains unconfirmed at the moment.

Will we ever see McKellen take a step back in acting in the near future given his current age? If he is indeed returning as Magneto, could that be his swan song in the role? Fortunately, that is not the case at all as the actor has shot down any possibility of retirement anytime soon.

In an interview with Variety, McKellen was asked about the possibility of retirement from acting soon, but he quickly shot it down and iterated that he is not contemplating it despite his age.

"Retire to do what? I’ve never been out of work, but I’m aware that any minute now something could happen to me which could prevent me from ever working again," he said.

"But while the knees hold up and the memory remains intact, why shouldn’t I carry on? I really feel I’m quite good at this acting thing now."

Based on his response here, it looks like we will be expecting more of McKellen on our screens as long as he is still healthy enough to do the long-time profession that he has mastered for decades.

This is also good news about the rumors surrounding his return as Magneto since it shows that we might see him continue the role post-Deadpool 3 if Marvel Studios wants him to stay throughout the rest of the Multiverse Saga.

Whatever happens to him throughout the rest of his career, we can pretty much say at this point that his long-time acting resume at this point has been very impressive as he managed to play various roles that different kinds of audiences have resonated with.
