How To Train Your Dragon Live Remake Filming Confirmed To Begin Sooner Than Expected

It hasn’t been long since a live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon has been confirmed to be in development alongside original film writer and director Dean DeBlois, and yet fans were already in an uproar at the idea of remaking the already perfect animated film with a new set of actors.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal is already scheduled to start filming this summer as the studio preps for production. Seeing as rumors on the live-action remake had begun since January this year, it’s high time that the remake officially moves forward with the project.

Considering there is little to no information on what the live-action remake will look like, it is safe to assume that the live-action is simply a transformation of its original animated film into a different platform, led by a new set of actors, and most likely, another CGI-centric film.

Amid this divisive news, though, it is worth mentioning that original film writer and director Dean DeBlois is involved with the trilogy live-action remake. DeBlois has previously worked on critically acclaimed animated movies such as the Dragon trilogy and Lilo and Stitch, and while this is set to be his first time directing a live-action movie, DeBlois’ involvement is more crucial than ever.

What matters most in transforming animated films to their live counterpart is the involvement of the original creators. After all, they are the key to a successful and smooth sailing of the live-action film.

But do take note that the casting for the live remake has yet to be unveiled as of writing.

Speaking of remakes, Disney is also remaking a live-action film for Moana, which is set to include the original cast members including titular actors Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson. As for Netflix, a Scott Pilgrim anime series has been confirmed to be in the works with the involvement of the original cast.

Universal Pictures’ How to Train Your Dragon live remake is currently slated to premiere on March 14, 2025.
