Chiaki is one of the many Class 1-D characters, and based on the anime, she doesn’t particularly stand out. Despite this, many are wondering just how smart Chiaki Matsushita is in Classroom of the Elite.
That’s because, many believe that Chiaki will play a bigger role in the series, even though she’s a fairly unassuming character, especially compared with other Class D students.

Is Chiaki Matsushita in the Classroom of the Elite Anime?
Anime-only fans will be forgiven if they don’t know who Chiaki Matsushita is. After all, she hasn’t played a big role in the events of the previous season.
Typically, she only appears in the background, with the focus being put more on popular characters like Kei Karuizawa and Maya Sato.
This isn’t too surprising as Classroom of the Elite has tons of characters, meaning it’s nearly impossible to get everyone a chance to shine. Chiaki does get the spotlight in the light novel’s later arcs.
Chiaki Matsushita and Kiyotaka Ayanokoji’s Relationship
As a female character in the series, many are no doubt wondering what she feels about Kiyotaka Ayanokoji given that a lot of girls have fallen for him already.
It’s fair to say that Chiaki isn’t exactly a love interest for Ayanokoji, and they aren’t particularly close either.
At first, Chiaki was confused by Ayanokoji’s awkward introduction. They then proceeded to have no interaction in Season 1.
As the series progressed though, Chiaki developed an interest in him, though not exactly in a romantic sense. This is because she thinks Ayanokoji is similar to her.
How Smart Is Chiaki Matsushita in Classroom of the Elite?
Despite being unassuming and carefree, Chiaki Matsushita is secretly smart. As she was placed in Class 1-D, she did not bother trying, though she believes she could reach the top 10% of the class if she tried.
Her smarts were proven in the Event Selection arc in Volume 11 of the light novel. There, she was able to challenge Class A’s Kohei Katsuragi in the mental arithmetic event.
As this event happens near the end of the 1st Year arc, fans can expect to see Chiaki play a bigger role in the coming episodes of Classroom of the Elite Season 3.
