It may seem like a BL or a reverse harem series, but it’s actually about cross-dressing characters.

How I Attended an All-Guys’ Mixer is a romantic comedy manga by Nana Aokawa that’s not what most anime fans expect. After all, its title implies that the series has some boys’ love or harem elements.

Instead, this series is described as a gender-norm-breaking manga. It follows a college student named Tokiwa as he gets invited to a mixer by Suo, a female classmate of his.

Tokiwa invites two of his friends and they proceed to the mixer. What they see there instead are three handsome guys. It turns out that these handsome men are Suo and her two friends who are cross-dressing as guys.

Suo and her friends work in a cross-dressing bar whose clientele is usually women, though they appear in the mixer in their male outfits. Unexpectedly, Tokiwa and his friends develop some complex feelings.

The manga may not be a hugely popular series, but it does have a strong enough following that an anime adaptation was confirmed.

The How I Attended an All-Guys’ Mixer anime was revealed via a new trailer which shows off some footage of the show’s cast.

Anime with cross-dressing or gender-bending elements aren’t new. After all, shows like Ouran High School Host Club or something newer like Ayakashi Triangle are popular.

The difference here is that Ouran is mainly aimed at shojo fans while Ayakashi Triangle is a fanservice-heavy ecchi. Meanwhile, All-Guys’ mixer promises to be a bit different while still having something for every rom-com fan.

For now, there’s no word yet on a release date for How I Attended an All-Guys’ Mixer.
