X-Men '97 episode 6 titled Lifedeath Part 2 confirmed fans' suspicions that Professor Charles Xavier is alive. However, instead of returning to Earth, Professor X had a mission on his own in outer space.

His soon-to-be-wife, Lilandra, aka the ruler of the Shi'ar Empire, wishes Professor X to become the planet's Emperor who would unite the human race with theirs.

However, this means resorting to erasing his memories of Earth and his X-Men, which makes the former mutant's leader hesitate.

Due to his reluctance to comply, the Empire's council was brought to chaos by preventing Professor X from taking the throne. It was at this moment that he knew what he had to do and that was to use his powers.

Like so, he entered each of their minds and let them take a seat in his classroom inside his Astral Plane, where he could explain history further and hopefully come to a peaceful conclusion.

But before he could proceed further, a flashing pink light appeared out from his spinning globe, a symbol of Gambit's kinetic powers.

Surely enough, a giant Gambit appeared in the background, his face turning into the skull, which sent the message to Professor X that he had indeed died.

As much as Professor X seeks to rule the Shi'ar Empire alongside his beloved, he has established that Earth and his X-Men family matter first. He is their priority, after all, protecting his children.

See, apart from news about Gambit's death, the entire classroom inside Professor X's Astral Plane displayed various skeletons seated in class, which indicates the mutant massacre on the island of Genosha.

As of episode 6, Professor X (and Storm) will be returning to the X-Men to make things right.

Meanwhile, this does pose the question, does this mean Magneto is alive, after all? How come it was only Gambit's 'soul' who showed up in the Astral Plane?
