As much as the CRM tried keeping the walkers out of their lives, they reaped what they sowed in The Ones Who Live finale. But how did the CRM turn into walkers in episode 6? Here's what happened.

How Did the CRM Soldiers Turn into Walkers in The Ones Who Live?
The Ones Who Live's finale wouldn't have been made possible without Jadis revealing her files on the CRM in the previous episode.
Rick and Michonne's mission is to get rid of Jadis' letter that contains details of how Jadis sold off Rick to the CRM and that he is married to Michonne. Jadis initially used this as a threat so the couple wouldn't interfere with CRM's plans.
However, quite satisfyingly, Michonne destroys the letter that would have gotten both of them killed, with Rick killing Major General Beale.
While the couple could have simply left the CRM alone, they devised a plan to stop them permanently from reaching their heinous goal once and for all.
Before Pearl Thorne could even comprehend what the duo planned to do, they set off the chlorine gas that wiped off soldiers, with the others turning into walkers in the process.

Rick and Michonne Defeated the CRM On Their Own
What remains to be seen is whether every single CRM soldier indeed died in the explosion and how many actually lived to turn into walkers.
However, the finale literally rid Rick and Michonne of any more reason to run, which made it easier and safer for them to come home to their kids.
This way, they don't have to worry about getting abducted into the CRM's system again, nor their kids being labeled under "A" and "B".
The CRM soldiers-turned-walkers are pretty much a better reason than to let them continue living and enforcing their heinous means of surviving in their little corner of the world.
