Here Are The First Details About Star Trek’s Picard Series

There was a whole lot of excitement when CBS All Access announced that it was working on a series starring Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Picard has long since been a fan-favorite character, and now as the scriptwriting for the new series continues, executive producer Alex Kurtzman gives fans a new update on the show.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kurtzman gives Trekkies new information about Picard's new series. While the show is supposed to serve as a sequel to Star Trek: The Next Generation, Kurtzman explains that the projected is going to be markedly different to TNG and to Star Trek: Discovery.

"People have so many questions about Picard and what happened to him, and the idea we get to take time to answer those questions in the wake of the many, many things he's had to deal with in Next Gen is really exciting," the showrunner explained during the interview. "‘More grounded' is not the right way to put it, because season 2 of Discovery is also grounded. It will feel more… real-world?"

While Kurtzman describes Discovery as an exciting bullet, the showrunner calls Picard a contemplative Star Trek series that won't move as fast as CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery. Plot details have yet to be discussed but with script writing currently going on, we imagine it might take some time for Trekkies to learn about what kind of story Kurtzman and his team have prepared for in Picard.

Right now, Kurtzman confirms that the writers are still working on the new Star Trek series with eight episodes already down pat.

Picard has yet to receive a premiere date but many expect the series to debut by the end of 2019.
