Hasbro Confirms Plans For Future Power Rangers Movies

Now that Hasbro has purchased Power Rangers from Saban, it's clear that the toy company will have big plans for the franchise. It is one of the most popular kid's TV shows out there after all, so they have to do something with it. This is why it's unsurprising to know that Hasbro does want to make more movies with these characters.

During Hasbro's Strategic Decisions Conference (via Toku Nation), Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner revealed that they have plans to bring these characters back to the movies, along with other forms of media. Hasbro does want to make a cinematic universe with all of their characters after all, so this was expected.

"As I mentioned, we've now announced the acquisition of Power Rangers. This is really a great statement about where we believe we are in develping our brand blueprint.The fact that we can acquire Power Rangers brand and plug and play that right into our strategy where we activate it in entertainment, motion pictures in the future and then of course across toys and games and consumer products and do so globally.We felt the brand was very under leveraged and undervalued. We feel we can exploit it to a much greater extent and it was a great opportunity to acquire the brand."

We did get a Power Rangers movie last year when it was still under Saban but it didn't set the world on fire. Neither a critical hit nor loathed, the movie ended up being mediocre popcorn fluff that didn't do too well at the box office. If Hasbro does end up making movies with them again, it will be interesting to see the original cast return, unless they go for a full reboot.

Until we see anything resembling a new Power Rangers movie, it's too soon to tell if the next one will do well or fail like its predecessor. Still, now that it's under Hasbro fans can finally have their Power Rangers vs GI Joe fight, assuming they go for that crossover.
