Harley Quinn Writer Knows All About Suicide Squad's 'Ayer Cut'

With all this talk about HBO Max finally releasing the Snyder Cut of Justice League, it seems like directors and fans have been throwing their hat in the pile when it comes to other director's cuts that they want to see. David Ayer's original cut for Suicide Squad, which fans are calling the Ayer Cut, is one of those hats since everyone knows that reshoots changed a lot of what the director had planned.

Though the 2016 Suicide Squad has a lot of fans and made plenty of money, it seems like DC and Warner Bros. are quick to throw it under the bus now that Marvel's James Gunn is going to direct The Suicide Squad. However, a lot of fans do want to see a proper "Ayer Cut" of this film and Harley Quinn co-writer Jimmy Palmiotti knows all about it.

On Twitter, Palmiotti talked about how the movie had much more Joker/Harley Quinn stuff on it and would have likely been more faithful towards how abusive the relationship actually was. This seems to be legitimate since Ayer has said for years that a ton of Harley/Joker scenes was cut and even revealed plans for Quinn to get with Deadshot in the end.

It seems like all this talk about director's cut movies have fans going crazy but it's too soon to tell if Ayer will get a chance to show off his vision for Suicide Squad. With Gunn's The Suicide Squad coming out next year, that could erase any of Ayer's chances to get this Ayer Cut, especially if it does well.

David Ayer's current version of Suicide Squad is now available on digital stores. James Gunn's The Suicide Squad will be coming out in August 2021.
