Deadshot and Harley Quinn Originally Hooked Up in Suicide Squad

While everyone is currently celebrating the official announcement of Zack Snyder's Justice League, a lot of fans are also looking at director David Ayer who we know got his movie, Suicide Squad, heavily altered by the studio after Batman v Superman. A lot of people consider Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Deadshot (Will Smith) to be the best elements of that film, but did you know the two characters were supposed to hook up?

This was revealed by Ayer on Twitter when asked by a fan about the original fate of Diablo:

We don't know why this scene was removed, but it's rumored that Harley and Joker's relationship was supposed to be abusive when it was originally planned. With Joker coming to save her at the end of the theatrical cut, it's possible WB thought a hook-up with Deadshot would be out of character.

If anything, the two do get together in another film, Batman: Assault on Arkham:

I have to say, with fans actually being able to make the Snyder Cut happen, I'm curious if they could do the same for Suicide Squad. Our first look at the movie was just so dark and edgy that it's a shame that the movie didn't go in that direction because of the reaction to Batman v Superman. I would definitely love to see Ayer's vision, and his sudden posts about the film are making fans curious if he could get in on this second chance at his film.

For now, the DCEU is set to reboot the series with James Gunn's The Suicide Squad which comes out on Aug. 6, 2021.
