The Haikyuu!! anime series by Production I.G’s fourth season ended in late 2020, and it has not gotten a sequel since then. This is despite the manga ending in the same year.

Finally, it was revealed in mid-2022 that two Haikyuu!! Final films are in the works. The first of these is officially titled Haikyuu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump, and will be released in Japanese cinemas soon.

There’s a lot of hype behind this movie, which makes sense as it will feature the long-awaited face-off between Karasuno High and Nekoma High.

Karasuno High is the school of the protagonist Shoyo Hinata. Meanwhile, Nekoma High is the school Kenma Kozume plays for.

The battle between Karasuno High and Nekoma High is dubbed the “Battle at the Garbage Dump” or the “Trashcan Showdown.”

These two schools have a fierce rivalry because of the rivalry between the two teams’ coaches. Despite how big the match between the two is, it has an unusual name. There’s a good reason for it though.

As its name implies, Karasuno High is associated with crows (karasu means "crow" in Japanese). In fact, the school’s banner reads “fly” not to mention that their coach had a pack of crows years ago.

Meanwhile, Nekoma High is associated with cats. Again, this is because of the school’s name which has neko, meaning "cat" in Japanese.

Given that cats and crows can be seen scavenging in dumpsters, the fated battle between the two schools is “Battle at the Garbage Dump.”
