Grand Prix Las Vegas 2018 is going to be one of the biggest Magic: The Gathering events this year. In addition to the 25th Anniversary playmats, the event will also offer players a chance to win the Commander Championship playmat and the Pauper Championship playmat.

"We want to give communities and playgroups that don't get the spotlight a large scale tournament and their turn on the big stage," CFB Events wrote in the official Grand Prix Las Vegas website. "That was our original thinking behind the Format Championships, starting at Grand Prix Vegas and carrying on at every future Double Grand Prix Weekend."

Above this article, you'll see the playmat for the Pauper Championship in Grand Prix Las Vegas. This playmat features the Ponder art by Dan Scott.

Below, you'll see the Commander playmat featuring the Sol Ring art by Mike Beierek. Check it out:

These playmats look cool but some netizens have criticized Channelfireball's logo placement on the playmats. I'm a fan of CFB so I have no issue with it but I understand why some players would be upset with that.

CFB Events also announced additional details about the Commander Championship event in Grand Prix Vegas. Check them out:

The tournament will be five rounds, and pairings will be based on record. Each round will award prizes – 60 Tickets for the winner and 20 tickets for each other player – and after five rounds there will be a cut to Top 4. The Top 4 players will play for additional prizes, as well as for the trophy naming them the Grand Prix Vegas Commander Champion.?
In addition to this, each player will be presented with a match slip each round. On this slip, they fill in which player in their pod they feel had the most interesting deck. We want to reward innovation, experimentation and fun – attributes that we feel are an important part of Commander and its community. At the end of the tournament, the four players with the most votes will be awarded a personally altered Sol Ring¸ altered on site by artist Mark Tedin.

Grand Prix Las Vegas 2018 will take place on June 14-17. For more information, check out the official GP Vegas website here.
