Gotham is certainly going out with a big bang. The first trailer for Season 5 has just been unveiled at the New York Comic-Con and we may have gotten a brief glimpse at DC villain Magpie.
Gotham Season 5 is set to be the final season and will only consist of 10 episodes. However, that doesn't mean that the series is saving these episodes for one major villain. As the trailer confirms, the city will be overrun by several baddies.
The trailer opens with a view of Gotham in ruins. The bridge has been destroyed and the streets are deserted. It quickly becomes clear why nobody wants to go out. There are several scary-looking thugs roaming the streets and they don't fear the police. Interestingly, one character dressed in black and white appears to be Magpie.
At one point, we see Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) trying to shield Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) from someone or something. There is another scary scene where Jim finds himself in the dark with a mysterious figure lurking behind him.
The teaser certainly makes a point, confirming that the city will be torn apart by villains and the police who are trying to stop them. Unfortunately, we didn't get a glimpse of Shane West, who has been confirmed to portray Bane in the final season. We'll have to wait for a full-length trailer in hopes that the iconic DC baddie will finally make an appearance.
The cast of Gotham also teased on what would happen in Season 5 at NYCC. Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred Pennyworth, revealed that his character actually gets into a fight with Bane. Interestingly, the encounter will reportedly leave Alfred with a shattered spine. Sound familiar? There's a possibility that Alfred will be the one who gets broken by Bane in the final season.
Gotham Season 5 will premiere in 2019.
