It was rumored before that James Gunn would be bringing in Guardians of the Galaxy's Benicio del Toro to The Suicide Squad, and it looks like some more rumors have come out confirming his supposed role.
According to Forbes (via Empire), del Toro is currently being eyed to be one of the main villains The Suicide Squad that is currently named "The General." This could be code for someone who was actually in the comics, but for now, this is all we have on the character.
When rumors came out last month, it was said that del Toro was playing "The Mayor" and he was described as an "irascible old warrior who lives for war." I guess when it comes down to it, General would be the more fitting description as compared to Mayor.
If you look at it, del Toro could actually bring something interesting to the table. He's always known for playing kooky characters in films, so being the villain of the Suicide Squad reboot could be a walk in the park for him. We don't really have that many memorable baddies in the DCEU, so it would be great if del Toro could bring us something as fun as Heath Ledger's Joker.
James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is aiming for a release on Aug. 6, 2021.
