Suicide Squad 2: James Gunn Might Cast Another Guardians Of The Galaxy Star As DC Villain

It looks like James Gunn might be reuniting the Guardians of the Galaxy family in his new project. A new report claims that the Brightburn producer is hoping to cast another Marvel Cinematic Universe star as the major villain in Suicide Squad 2.

There have already been reports that Gunn is planning to cast Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's Michael Rooker as King Shark in the highly anticipated DC Extended Universe sequel. However, Gunn's longtime collaborator might not be the only GOTG actor who will appear in the followup to David Ayer's Suicide Squad.

Geeks Worldwide claims that the current top choice to play the new villain in the film is Benicio del Toro, who was last seen playing The Collector in Avengers: Infinity War. If del Toro joins Suicide Squad 2, he could take on the role of The Mayor, who is described as an "irascible old warrior who lives for war."

We wouldn't be surprised if Gunn decides to bring in del Toro for his DCEU project considering that the Slither director likes to keep working with actors he had previously collaborated with. However, there has been no official word yet on whether del Toro is joining Suicide Squad 2 so we would recommend taking this with a grain of salt.

It was previously confirmed that Ant-Man and The Wasp star David Dastmalchian has been cast as Polka-Dot Man in Suicide Squad 2. He will join fellow newcomers Idris Elba and Daniela Melchior as well as returning cast members Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis.

Suicide Squad 2 is scheduled for release on August 6, 2021.
