Get Nostalgic Over This Fan-Made Game Boy Color Tribute to Pokemon: Detective Pikachu

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is literally a day away and many are already calling it the best video game movie ever made, though that's not saying much. Still, the fact that we're getting a competent video game/anime film by people who clearly like the source material is a step in the right direction. To celebrate, Nintendo Wire has remade the film's first trailer but in the style of Pokemon Yellow and it will make any ‘90s kid cry.

From the pixel art that looks exactly like Pokemon Yellow to the fact that Pikachu shows emotion through its special face box, like in the game, it's clear that this is a labor of love. Honestly, it makes us want to find our broken-down Game Boy Colors and play Pokemon Yellow again (or just get the 3DS version).

There's also Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu, which is essentially a remake of Pokemon Yellow but with Pokemon GO-inspired catching mechanics. While some fans are angry over the lack of wild Pokemon battles, others do enjoy its more relaxing nature and the wonderful soundtrack. It's better than the actual Detective Pikachu game on the 3DS, though that in itself isn't a terrible experience.

Anyway, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu comes out tomorrow on May 10. Anyone else pumped for this movie?
